The Standard and Pricing Unit seeks to bring social, economic and environmental benefits to producers and workers and to empower them to address the challenges of poverty and to achieve sustainable livelihoods. The Pricing Unit (PU) do this through developing, monitoring and reviewing Fairtrade economic benefit mechanisms, including Fairtrade Minimum Prices and Fairtrade Premiums, wages and Living Income. The PU also provides pricing support services, such as communication, guidance and training on Fairtrade Minimum Prices, wages and farmers income. 

PRINCIPAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Project Manager will be responsible for conceptualizing and independently managing projects, drive and shape the development, management and communication of Fairtrade Standards and Prices, with a specific focus, but not limited to, work on Fairtrade Prices, wages and farmers income.
 
Reporting to Head of Pricing, the Project Manager will be part of the Pricing Unit. 
 
The focus will be on: 
 
Operations:                
  • Manage Fairtrade Pricing projects, including budgetary responsibility, stakeholders’ management, data collection, consultation leading to a decision by the Standards Committee
  • Integrate advice and guidance from Fairtrade International experts and Fairtrade members into standards and pricing
  • Monitor and contribute to thematic sustainability developments and include in Price development and reviews
  • Evaluate and develop communication and consultation tools used for Pricing projects
  • Coordinate and integrate input from other Standard and Pricing team members to develop cross-cutting work
  • Manage prices, wages and farmers income data (collection and analysis)
  • Monitor and plan work within assigned areas of responsibility (product and thematic)
  • Develop communication and guidance material on standards and prices
  • Develop methodological documents to improve Fairtrade price-setting processes
  • Develop consultancy tenders, receive and evaluate consultancy quotes, prepare contracting of consultants and manage relationship with consultants to ensure high-quality results
  • Substitute team members and undertake other tasks that are consistent with the level and responsibilities of this position

SKILLS REQUIRED

Level of education:
The position holder will have a university/Master’s degree in Agriculture and/or Economics, Business, Development or another relevant field. 
 
Years of professional experience in a relevant area of work: 
  • 1-3 years’ experience 
Knowledge / Job Specific Competencies:
  • Project management experience gained in a complex, matrix organizational structure –as a project lead or project member
  • Experience in managing project teams
  • Expert knowledge of small farmers’ and workers’ social and economic conditions in developing countries
  • Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to explain complex matters to a variety of audiences,
  • Excellent analytical and data handling skills, experience in research, writing, and presentation skills
  • Able to work on multiple projects and matters simultaneously and meet tight timeframes efficiently and with excellence
  • Ability to work independently and develop projects with guided supervision
  • Detail oriented and have a track record of accountability
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and digital competence
  • Languages: fluency in English
  • Professional experience of work in international development, particularly small business development
  • Knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese or French (desirable) 
Professional Skills:
  • Proficiency in tools like Excel, Power Stata, BI and R are a plus
  • Ability to apply statistical methods for trending analysis
  • Awareness of agricultural economics
  • Reports writing and presentation
  • Project planning, budget and finance management

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Terms and Conditions:
  • This is a limited (maternity cover) full-time position within Fairtrade International.
  • Location is at Fairtrade International offices in Bonn, Germany with the opportunity for hybrid work arrangements
  • The office language is English
  • Salary as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement for the Wholesale and Foreign Trade Industries for North Rhine Westphalia Group 5 and over tariff payments
