Fairtrade International is the international non-profit, multi stakeholder body that is responsible for the strategic direction of Fairtrade, sets Fairtrade standards and supports producers.

PRINCIPAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE:

The post holder will actively coordinate and support defined projects, develop and communicate about Fairtrade Standards and related standard setting methodologies.

PRINCIPAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  •  Develop training and communication and guidance material on standards to support the ongoing standard review processes
  • Evaluate and develop communication and consultation tools used for Standard projects
  • Support the maintenance and improvements of communication re standards on the Website
  • Coordinate the development and maintain a system for collecting and storing communications relevant to standards (including rankings, benchmarks, comparison documents, etc)
  • Coordinate projects to develop and revise Fairtrade standards, from research phase to decision by the Standards Committee under guidance and oversight of the Head of Standards or Director S&P
  • Support the development and revision of Fairtrade standards, from research phase to decision by the Standards Committee, under guidance and oversight of the Head of Standards or Director S&P
  • Integrate advice and guidance from Fairtrade International experts and Fairtrade members adequately into standard proposals
  • Monitor and contribute to thematic sustainability developments and include in Standard development and reviews
  • Coordinate the support of other team members in their role in Standard projects under guidance of the line manager
  • Manage standards data (collection and analysis)
  • Monitor and plan work within assigned areas of responsibility (product and thematic wise)
  • Act as main point of contact for standard related questions within assigned area of responsibility
  • Support the development of methodological improvements to Fairtrade standard-setting processes
  • Develop consultancy tenders, receive and evaluate consultancy quotes, prepare contracting of consultants and manage relationship with consultants to ensure high-quality results. Support other unit-relevant projects/ tasks as required and needed
  • Provide training to and share knowledge with Technical Assistants and Student assistants
  • Cooperate with other units, functions, organisations and public authorities on related topics
  • Substitute team members and undertake other tasks that are consistent with the level and responsibilities of this position

SKILLS REQUIRED

Level of Education
  • University education in development, economics, business, agriculture or other relevant
Job specific competencies and experience

Essential
  • A minimum of 1-year experience in project management
  • Knowledge of small farmers’ and workers’ social and economic conditions in developing countries
  • Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to explain complex matters to a variety of audiences, including our international governance bodies
  • Excellent analytical, research, writing, and presentation skills
  • Able to work on multiple matters simultaneously and meet tight timeframes efficiently and with excellence
  • Willingness to work independently and to collaborate effectively when needed
  • Ability to develop projects under guidance
  • Detail oriented
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and digital competence
  • Languages: fluency in English
Desired
  • Experience within the areas relevant to the work of Fairtrade
  • Qualification and experience in social, economic, or environmental standard-setting or auditing
  • Knowledge and experience on Fairtrade products, its flow and trade (e.g. Coffee, Banana, Sugar)
  • Professional experience of work in international development, particularly small business development
  • Knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese or French

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • This is a full-time position.
  • An initial one-year contract is offered. It is envisaged that the contract will be renewable after the initial one year period.
  • Location is at Fairtrade International offices in Bonn, Germany
  • The office language is English
  • Salary as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement for the Wholesale and Foreign Trade Industries for North Rhine Westphalia and Fairtrade International Company Agreement on wages and salaries Group V plus an attractive benefit package.
  • Starting date: as soon as possible
  • 30 days of holidays per year
